O’s Draft “ARod Light”
In tonight’s First-Year Player Draft, the Orioles selected SS Manny Machado. The O’s first pick and third overall in the draft is currently playing high school baseball at Brito High School in Miami, Florida.
Machado’s baseball talent is unquestionable; however, he probably sucks at laundry because he committed early to college down the street from his home at Florida International.
Much hype has been made around his frame (6′ 3″ 190 lbs) and his body style has been compared to a hispanic version of Cal Ripken Jr.- oh wait that would just be Alex Rodriguez, right? I hope he has Cal’s dedication to this franchise and doesn’t have ARod’s taste in women.
As of late, the Orioles have been doing a pretty decent job in the draft so there is no real reason to question this pick – many people have said he’s the best overall player in this year’s draft (I disagree-Bryce Harper is a monster). The only red flag for us in Birdland is that Machado is a client of Scott Boras and will definitely cost the Orioles a pretty penny (not to mention a full salary for someone to just fold his laundry).
So Manny Machado, welcome to Baltimore. I’m sorry you have to play for a shitty team but at least you’ll be up to the big leagues in no time…that is unless Cesar Izturis or Miguel Tejada are the answer for all of our problems.
