Machado wins co-AL Player of the Week in his first “week”
Despite playing in only four games, Manny Machado’s production during that short stretch was enough to earn him American League Player of the Week honors (sharing the award with Boston’s Adrian Gonzalez).
In his four games, the O’s young third baseman went 6-for-16 with three home runs, one triple, one double, five runs scored and seven runs batted in. Those numbers are good for .375 batting average and a 1.0625 slugging percentage.
Hopefully it will be the first of many such awards for Manny.
While nobody expects Machado to keep up quite this blistering pace, if he can continue to be a consistent contributor, his spark could be just what the Birds need to keep up the momentum of this “Why Not?” 2012 campaign as the calendar moves into late August and September.
